A career between ocean and society
I hold a PhD in ecotoxicology and biogeochemistry from the University of Bordeaux (EPOC) and in environmental pollution and toxicology from the University of the Basque Country (CBET+ / Plentzia Marine Station). My research focuses on the fate and effects of emerging pollutants, alongside developing tools to limit their release into aquatic environments.
My thesis centred on the assessment and ecotoxicity of microplastics, nanoplastics and additives resulting from the degradation of fishing gear in the Bay of Biscay. Bridging oceanography, environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology, my work explores the interactions between polymer degradation and the health of coastal ecosystems.
From pollutant to environmental risk
Specialising in the environmental risk assessment of emerging pollutants, I have developed integrated approaches combining experimental measurements, field studies, statistical analysis and modelling to understand contaminant dynamics in marine environments.
Through this work, I aim to connect laboratory findings to the practical management of ecosystems, applying science in the service of conservation.
An international, engaged career
Alongside this academic path, I co-founded the scientific NGO 4P Scienseas and served as a European Youth for Ocean Advocate for the European Commission — working to bring civil society, public institutions and scientific research closer together, notably through coastal “plastic route” expeditions, public science cafés and short “sci-pitch” videos.
